The 2014 Giro Rosa (Giro d'Italia Internazionale Femminile, formerly known as the Giro Donne) kicks off tomorrow (July 4) with a 2 km individual time-trial prologue in Caserta, in southwestern Italy (on the Mediterranean coast between Rome and Naples).
The race is 10 stages (including the prologue) in length, and runs through July 13. It is (alongside the Tour de France for the men) the biggest race of the year for the UCI women's pro peloton, and the women's only 'Grand Tour' race. The world's top pro female riders (including 2-time winner, the reigning Road Olympic and World Champion, Marianne Vos, and defending 2013 champion - herself also a 2-time winner - Mara Abbott) compete annually in this race.
