Round 5 of the UCI Women's Road World Cup took place on May 18 on Chongming Island, near the mouth of the Yangtze River just outside of Shanghai in China. Other than a suspension-bridge the course was pan-flat, which made this the "sprinters' round", and, given her success with bunch-sprint victories so far this year it was won by Kirsten Wild (Liv-Shimano). There was also a 3-day stage-race prior to the World Cup race, the Tour of Chongming Island, and that (the GC-overall) was also won by Wild, with Shelley Olds (Alé Cipollini) second, Giorgia Bronzini (Wiggle Honda) third. Bronzini (the 2-time ex-World Champion) was also third in the World Cup race, behind WIld and Elena Cecchini (Estado de México - Faren Kuota).

Liz Armitstead (Boels-Dolmans) retains the overall World Cup lead although she (and several other WC contenders such as Emma Johansson, Anna van der Breggen, Ellen van Dijk, Pauline Ferrand-Prevot and Marianne Vos) did not make the trip to China.
